Do not use this company or any of its aliases: Northern Moving, Atlas, Proud American Moving, American Movers Group. I dealt with American Movers Group and I obtained a quote from 123moving, along with others. They were by far the lowest per pound quote.
Well, they wrote on the "binding quote" that my shipment was to be weighed before and after loading to determine the weight, and bill me per the April 2011 pricing. That was great since I could only estimate what I would be moving at the time. They did not want to do an in home estimate, and you have to waive your right to that...DON'T DO IT! I put my inventory in for ESTIMATION purposes. 12 large items were not even moved. When I estimated my box count, they increased the weight and price by $1,000. I had to move my pick up date 5 days earlier to ensure delivery in 10 days, according to customer service supervisor. He assured me that we would have the shipment weighed. I had an in home estimate that was 2,607 lbs. less than their PRECISE ESTIMATE OF WEIGHT.
When the load was picked up, it was not an 18 wheeler with air ride, it was a small truck with which they transported my belongings to a warehouse and unloaded them, stored them for 3 weeks, then loaded back on the same truck and delivered 24 days after pickup. Several boxes looked like they ran over them with the truck, but if you packed it too bad, it doesn't matter what they break. They just throw stuff around because they don't care and they are not liable.
Upon delivery, I asked for the weigh bills, and called customer service demanding that they honor their contract, at which time my belongings were held hostage until I paid their bill. Then they unloaded haphazardly, couldn't follow directions, and barely understood english.
This is the most crooked business I have ever dealt with. This is truly a racket, and I am not finished fighting with them. I still have to file claims for damage to my precious items I had them pack, that they broke! Wish me luck, because I don't believe there is an ounce of honor in that company. It appears they change business names frequently and tell the USDOT one story, and customers another!
And yes, I will be filing a complaint with them too, but the sooner people receive a warning about them the better!
Good luck on your move. I wish I would have gone with United. Their quote would have turned out less expensive, an 18 wheeler would have picked me up, and delivered promptly, and I bet I would not have the broken and damaged items I have now!
