I thought I was hiring American Mover Group, however they are only a "PHONE SERVICE" and contract out the work to an "Independent Contractors". I was moving from Romulus MI to La Quinta CA. AMG sent a mover from Chicago IL, 400 miles and 5 hours away. The mover was suppose to be at my home at 8 am, Oct. 20 2010, however arrived at 4:30 pm. ( They loaded the truck in the DARK from 4:30pm till 1AM)
When the movers arrived the drive & owner indicated he needed to explain the move and the charges. He did not charge by weight or LB., but by cubic foot. Do you know how many cubic feet in a truck! (Baited and Switch) AMG quoted in lbs.
He knew nothing about any discounts that AMG offered and indicated he wanted an additional "$800 to repack items" he claimed needed to be in boxes, they were wrapped in bubble wrap. Being I had to move, and it was 4:30 pm, I had to agree or nothing would be cover for damage liability. I would have to sign a "waive for damaged items" if I didn't pay for repackaging. "GOT YOU".
Again, "Bait and Switch", you need to move, they are late, what can you do. Sign & Pay and think you can call the company the next day. Wrong! American Movers Group, go into action and they give you the run around and a number to call, it's the guy you want to complain about!!!!!!! The Baited and Switched in action thats how he prices and he tells you that is just the way he charges. He also tells you that you should have someone come to the house first, who AMG doesn't have and claim they can do it all by phone. You are again SCAMMED!
I call AMG talk with a lady in Customer service named Stacy, she say she will look into problem and never calls back. I called again and ask for a manage, Stacy gave me a name Issac Davis, I find out he is the dispatcher." who also never calls back. I am still waiting for a call as of 11.12.2010.
Use a real Moving Company not a Company that "SUB CONTRACT" the work TO AN INDEPENDENT MOVING COMPANY and them give you the run around and LOADS OF RHETORIC.
They are only a call in location, they will not allow you to speak to management. It's CLEARLY A BAIT AND SWITCH OPERATION. Deal with a real moving company not a want a be because of the internet.
Items that i was charged $800 additional dollars for packaging were receive damaged. They did not put things that they claimed had to be in boxes. It was just a Scam for packaging. They wrapped things up in blankets telling me when they got back there warehouse that they would put them in boxes. They took a piece of cardboard and taped it on the blanket and claimed thats how the do it. (Packing Scam to Me) Told me Glass Doors an cabinets had to be remove, showed up just like they left my home, wrapped in a blanket.
