This was possibly the worst moving experience ever. I had less than one bedroom of furniture (from San Francisco to Chicago)XXXwe are talking bed and 30 boxes of clothes that's it... but this company felt the need to charge me DOUBLE for extra weightXXXthey said it was over 2000 lbs.
I have to admit- they were pretty good when coming to pick up. The movers were on time and professional and promised that my belongings would be at my location within 7-14 business days. After almost 3 weeks of no furniture, I called the company and to my surprise my stuff hadn't even left San Francisco. I was totally patient and understanding at the time that they needed a full truck to leave, and the appreciated that and said my stuff would be on the next truck out and I should expect it on TuesdayXXXbut Wednesday at the latest. Finally, after not hearing anything from them on TuesdayXXXI call again. They say it will come on Thursday between 3-5 PM. It is now 6:30 PM on Thursday and I have tried calling my driver and he has not answered. So i call the dispatch in San Francisco and all they can promise me is that it will come tonight. When the driver finally calls me back, he says that they just want to come in the morning. Now I am absolutely LIVID at this point, as I have taken off three days of work and canceled numerous plans to try to accomodate the days that they "say" they are coming. The finally did get to my house at 10 PM and say they have to charge me the long distance fee since the permit i got them to park in my street is no longer valid. I wanted to fight so many charges but I got to a point where I just wanted to get my things and not deal with this company.
I read good reviews for American Choice Van Lines for local moves but clearly they are not equipped to handle long distance moves. The person who you book your move with does nothing once you give them the depositXXXhe said it's all the dispatchers call. I did lots of research while preparing for this move and regret that I went for a lower cost and now it is ending up costing me a lot more time and money in the end. I've had a few things that were damaged during the move but I seriously just don't want to deal with this company again.
