I have moved 7 times in the last 7 years so I know for a fact that the VERY large percentage of moving companies are not to be tursted. They take your money and literally run. I have had problems with every single one of the ones that I have used, but nothing like with Allied. My wife and I moved from Boston to Portland over the summer of 2006 and got the most affordable rate from Allied so we went for it, eventhough we had already had problems with them on a past move.
Well, this time was worse. They not only took almost 4 weeks longer than they had p[redicted and promised to us to deliver our stuff, but also did not even bother letting us know about the delay in the first place. When I tried to file a delay claim, they said that all they could do is offer us some camping equipment, which was described by the phone operator as some "inexpensive plastic silverware and some linens". Yes, that was their appologie.
Please DO NOT do business with this company, neither with their associates. I actually moved with Edwards movers from Boston and they were just as bad. They lied to us various times, starting from the time they picked up our stuff. The truck was late 4 hours and they said over the phone that the truck was "lost". When the driver arrived they said they had been sent to another job. They couldn't even keep the same lie.
I explained to the person who gave us a quote from the first place that I have concerns about not having appropriate people remving our stuff from the truck and that I had problems before where only the driver had showed up and tried to hire people in the street to carry my move in. He said that WOULD NEVER happen with them and laughed. Well, sure enough, comes out our truck with a skinny driver and his wife! Yes... night mare again.
Anyway... don't trust, don't believe, don't use, never use Allied. They are not to be trusted!
