I contacted All My Sons to use their Sarasota branch to move items from Sarasota, Florida to Tampa, Florida. Originally, I dialed their Sarasota number and spoke to a person named Anthony. I went through ALL of the items in the apartment, the fact that the apartment was on the second floor and the fact that the site we were moving to was approximately 100 miles from Sarasota.
Anthony gave me the following quote more than one week before my scheduled move:
$129 per hour for 3 men
1 hour of travel time.
I was told that the company would be considering this a local move and that I would not be charged more than 1 hour for travel time. Period. I would not be charged for the time it took the movers to drive from Sarasota to Tampa and from Tampa back to Sarasota. I was told that the $129 per hour would be charged for labor time, meaning the time it takes to load the truck in Sarasota and unload the truck in Tampa. This was an EXCELLENT deal. I am an attorney, so I made sure I asked all of the right questions and confirmed the details. I told Anthony I would give him a call later that day to confirm the move because I wanted to shop around for the best deal.
The next day, I contacted All My Sons using their local number in Sarasota, Florida. At that time, I spoke to Reina, a female. Reina looked up the quote that Anthony gave me and confirmed the details. I booked the move with Reina that day and requested confirmation in writing. Reina advised that she would send me the quote in writing, but she never did. She just sent an email confirming that I booked the company for my move on Friday, May 31, 2013.
On the morning of Thursday, May 30, 2013, I contacted All My Sons to confirm the details. I was told by Matt, who is supposedly a manager, that the quotes I was given by Anthony and Reina were correct. This is the THIRD person who confirmed the moving quote to me.
Thereafter, on the DAY BEFORE MY MOVE, I was contacted by Diane and Betty (phone number is 941-359-0813). These women stated that they could not do the move for the quoted price. At that time, I was livid. I received the same quote from THREE people at the company. Diane and Betty stated that these persons just answered the phones when they needed help and that they were not authorized to give me a quote. Diane and Betty changed up the quote at the last minute by giving a REVISED quote as follows:
1) 2 person moving crew - $129 per hour. This changed from the three person moving crew at $129 per hour that THREE people had previously quoted me. Betty told me she wanted to work with me, so she moved the rate up to $139 per hour for three men. I didn't argue because it was last minute, so I agreed because that was on par with the quotes I received from other movers.
2) She had to take on THREE hours of travel time as opposed to the ONE hour I was quoted by three different people who had all of the details. I told her absolutely not. Again, she stated she wanted to work with me (you could tell she deals with this A LOT) and she said she would knock it down to TWO hours of travel time. I agreed because I felt as though I had no other options given the fact that I learned I was being screwed over literally hours before my move.
3) Betty also let me in on the little golden nugget of information that the movers would charge for travel time between Sarasota and Tampa and from Tampa back to Sarasota. I again advised dear, sweet, precious Betty that THREE people told me that this would not be charged. That is the whole reason why I hired their company in the first place because the one hour of travel time that was being charged to me was a significant savings over the other movers. She again advised me that the THREE people who gave me the quote were not authorized to do so, that they just answer the phones and they are actually in Texas.
4) Betty also advised that their company charges $35 per television to move them, $25 "stair fees" for second story apartments and other hidden charges that I was not quoted or told about. Because Betty is such a peach, and she is an experienced scammer, she said that she would work with me to waive these fees. These fees are entirely made up. You will not learn about them until the day before your move or the day of your move just as other reviewers have posted.
I ended up cancelling my move with these rip off artists. I should have read reviews prior to booking them, but they were the best quote I received. When you call to get a quote from them, they will underquote you and then contact you the day before your move to give you the real quote and change things up. That is the way they do business. I suggest that you do not go anywhere near these rip off artists. If you do, make sure you get an actual QUOTE in writing and make sure you get it well in advance of your scheduled move. They are hesitant to put anything in writing. When I asked for the quote in writing, they kept transferring me to managers and I got "accidentally" disconnected. When I finally reached a manager, I asked to hold while he emailed me the quote. Thereafter, a random person got on the phone and said they could not email me a quote.
BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY. THEY WILL SCREW YOU OVER AT EVERY TURN!
