This company sounded fantastic on the phone. One of the best that I've ever worked with on the phone. I have moved 4 times in 5 years, so I think I would have known to ask more questions about "additional costs" that may have been mentioned. I'm not going to mention names, b/c truthfully, it doesn't matter. What matters is that the guys that actually moved us were financially the ones that got the short end of the stick. I typically tip hundreds of dollars to my movers, but when I called first thing in the morning to discuss the additional charges that were mentioned (once the guys were at the house to pack us), I received a very friendly "don't worry, we will work with you on it". But when we arrived at the delivery site, the movers sat around (still on my dime) waiting to get paid and I was forced to pay the full amount or they wouldn't unload my things. While on the phone with the company at this time, they didn't budge one cent on the extra fees.
I gave each mover $20 just to be nice, but they would have received more like $60 a piece. I shared with them that I knew it wasn't their fault and that their company is shady, sketchy, and dishonest.
I realize a move is always more expensive that you anticipate, and that their is always more stuff going on the truck than you think. I had no problem with the hours (although there was probably an extra hour that the guys were either smoking, talking on the phone, or otherwise just NOT loading or unloading our stuff). But the real problem here is the extra $300 I had to pay in "GAS SURCHARGE" or "20% on top of your move"
HOW CAN YOU CHARGE A GAS SURCHARGE ON A MOVE BASED ON HOURS PACKING AND UNPACKING A TRUCK, WHEN THE TRUCK IS SITTING, NOT RUNNING? Our move was less than 10 miles from one house to the other!!!
