Our move began over Labor Day weekend. With the up and down real estate market we found ourselves in a very difficult position in which we had sold our home and had to be moved out but the home we were meant to go to fell through at the fault of the sellers. Your company was very compassionate regarding our situation and flexible and I started to feel like although so many things were going wrong at least the move would be smooth. I wish that had turned out to be the case. While your company was helpful with our situation they were also well compensated for it. We moved from a house into a storage unit and then 3 weeks later into another house. The items were moved in total 2-3 miles. I cannot even begin to explain how disappointed we are. Each piece of furniture moved is damaged. We also had about 25-35 boxes from our 5th bedroom which were moved by your movers as well. No thought or concern was even taken to what items were packed in those boxes as many of the boxes are now crushed, and the items within them damaged or broken. As moving professionals I am sure that you know heavy on the bottom light stacked on the top. This was performed exactly the opposite by your movers. I also was asked where I wanted the boxes placed in the garage of my new home which I gave explicit instructions so as to still be able to use the garage for cars. Overseeing the other movers as to where to place my furniture in the house I came back to the garage to find the boxes stacked like a leaning tower in the wrong area, once again light on the bottom and heavy on the top. These boxes we picked up by your movers in excellent condition and delivered in a condition that looked similar to kicking them off the truck first. The items in the boxes that were moved are irreplaceable as they were collections from my Great Grandparents. Four years ago we moved 2400 miles here with a different moving company. I had expected with a trek like that you have some minor damage along the way, yet I didn’t have one item broken or damaged and somehow when moved by your company a few miles we had lot of damage.
Not only did I spend over $2800 dollars in moving expenses plus tips each time I now have multiple items that need to be repaired. I am not even sure that some of the pieces can be repaired, as slices and gashes to leather couches is not a good idea. I am very disappointed. While on your website this morning I read so many statements that I find were not initiated in my families move correct. “Our family-owned and operated company brings four generations of moving and storage experience to your door, so you never have to worry about the details. We supply all packing materials, making sure everything from your prized DVD collection to your antique dining set is moved to your new location without damage.”
When moving out of our home we offered the movers as many storage units as they needed so as to give all the furniture the proper space that it needed to ensure it remain in the pristine condition. They decided on using just one unit for a 2800 square foot home full of furniture. I am sure that it was a combination of stacking, loading and riding in the truck that caused the damage, however my reason for hiring professionals was to avoid this situation. I also chose to hire your company even though you were the highest hourly rate by far. If I knew then what I know now I could have saved money by using another less expensive company to allot for the repair and purchase of new furniture.
I spoke to a representative for the company and he asked me if I had placed a claim....I thought that is what I was doing with my service person. Instead I was told to call another person, when the original sales person assured me that all claims were handled in house! I would have thought that the company would try to offering me some sort of restitution but they did not they told me to deal with claims.
The claims person thus far has been very nice and understanding which is all I should have received from the actual company!
