My experience with Ericka Andrews of Accurate Movers was less than ideal and overall disappointing. I chose Accurate Movers (of West Orange, NJ) after doing a Google search and then checking for reviews about them. I called the company and dealt exclusively with Ericka Andrews, a Relocation Specialist. Ericka set forth AccurateMover's policies and information to me over the phone and via email. One thing that I was very concerned about was that I would need to put a portion of the cost of my move on a credit card. Ericka informed me that, although it was not usually done by credit card, and also that I would be charged a $200 fee to do so, there wouldn't be a problem putting a portion of the charge on a credit card. I informed her that I would probably need to put a portion on a credit card and would be willing to pay the $200 fee. Ericka said that was fine and should not be a problem. Unfortunately, Ericka lied. When I broached the issue of using a credit card for some of the remaining cost of the move with the movers, the movers informed me that it was absolutely not done and it was not possible to so. He told me to read the small print on the form, which stated that they would only accept cash. Ok. I read it and I understood it. But don't tell me in the beginning that you will accept a accredit card knowing full well that it is not company policy. Had I be told by Ericka that Accurate absolutely did not accept credit cards on any circumstances, I would probably not have used Accurate. I honestly believe that Ericka did this just to seal the deal with me. You know, the old "tell her whatever she wants to hear, just to make sure she signs on the dotted line." I feel that Ericka doing this was most disingenuous and even unethical. Additionally, Ericka withheld, or failed to disclose information that as a result her doing so, caused me to have to pay more money for the move. At some point during my packing process, prior to the move, I called Ericka to find out if it was okay to pack items in storage packs to be moved. She told me that it was certainly fine to pack items in storage packs, so long as they were not garbage bags. I told her that I was packing bedding items in heavy duty storage packs (about 8 bags in total) and that nothing was being packed in garbage bags. When the movers arrived, they informed me that they would not accept storage bags - that EVERYTHING had to be in a box. I ended up having to buy boxes from the movers. These boxes cost considerably more than the boxes that I had previously purchased from U-Haul. Had I not been mislead by Ericka into thinking that some items could be in storage bags, I would certainly have purchased my own boxes at a lower rate and not the more expensive mover boxes. I feel that this lack of disclosure about ALL items needing to be in boxes, was either due to her lack of knowledge about her own industry or more unscrupulously, her desire to pad AccurateMover's bottom line. Either way, it was definitely not in the best interest of the me, the customer. Because of the above, I WOULD NEVER USE AccurateMovers.net AGAIN and would not recommend them to anyone else to use. After this monumental move across the country (from Connecticut to California) I recommend to those who are going to make such a big move - USE A REPUTABLE COMPANY (i.e. Allied, United Van Lines or Mayflower) that accepts credit card transactions and gives you a wealth of information on their websites about all things related to their moving practices. The reason being is that for such a big move, there will definitely be details you don't know about packing items, costs that are unexpected, and as with me, the estimated cost and the actual cost was a difference of about $3000.00. So unless you are sure you have all of the cash, plus some extra, being able to use a credit card for a portion of it gives you some wiggle room.
Lastly, I must note that the individuals who actually arrived at my residence to pick up my stuff were AMAZING. At the pick up location in Connecticut, Joseph and his crew were prompt, professional, thorough and careful. The movers that arrived in California at the drop off location was great as well. Peter and his crew were good. Nothing was broken or missing. Although, I have one issue with Peter recruiting two guys from off the corner of our street to help them move our stuff into the house was unprofessional and possibly and ethical breach. Both Peter and Joseph informed me that they were available for moves, without being under the AccurateMover's umbrella.
