ABS Moving and Storage

The subject basically sums up my experience with ABS Moving and storage. I was originally quoted by phone a price of 300 dollars for a local move. I thought this was pricey to move a small 1 bedroom apartment, but after calling a few other companies, it seemed to be the cheapest price. Once the driver arrived, I was quickly shocked to find that the contract papers included the original 300 dollar fee ($98/hr) plus an additional charge of $98 dollars for the "truck fee". I was originally told over the phone that the truck fee was included in the 300 dollars I was paying. But anyway, the real problem came when the driver decided to back a hugh truck into a little parking space at my crowded apartment complex parking lot. He was able to make it into the space, but once the loading was complete, he didnt have enough room to get out of the space. I spent the next 20 minutes knocking on my neighbors doors trying to see if we could find someone to move thier car (while the driver and both helpers just sat in the truck looking dumbfounded). Finally I gave up looking for someone to move and I guided the driver while he drove back and forth trying to squeeze out of the space. After a total of 45 minutes, we finally got out and headed towards my new apartment. The driver cruised at an average speed of 35 - 45 miles per hour the WHOLE WAY even on the highway (trying to squeeze in some extra time maybe??). Once we FINALLY got there, it took a mere 45 minutes to unload the truck. The time CONVIENETLY ran 10 minutes past the 3 hour time frame after which he told me he would "HAVE TO" charge me an additional 98 dollars for an extra hour. I refused of course. After which he put me on the phone with his manager. I explained to him that if his driver had not gotten stuck for 45 minutes, and then drove as slow as he could the whole way to my new apartment, we would not have gone over the timeframe. His reply was, "Who's problem is that?" That of course infuriated me, and I refused to present my credit card. He tried to strong arm me by threatening to not unload the truck. His argument fell through once he realized they had already unloaded the truck. He got back on the phone with the driver and then hung up. I found out the next day that he had illegally charge my credit card anyway!!!!!! I am disputing the charges since they only have a legal credit charge for the original amount on the contract. be very careful when dealing with this company. They will try to squeeze every dime they can out of you and will basically blackmail you into paying whatever they want by not unloading the truck. Next time, I will just do the moving myself!
