I used this company on the recommendation of my sister and brother-in-law who had previously used their services. I had priced out full service movers and other moving companies for just the transport portion of the move. I was quoted in th $3K-$4K range with the disclaimer that it "could be more." With ABF UPack they answered my questions on the phone to my satisfaction prior to my making the decision and enabled me to make the correct decision between cartons and a trailer. I opted for purchasing space on the trailer and paying per linear foot. The quote for 10 feet was $892 and I ended up using 11 feet. The total came to $1040 and this included additional $2/pound liability coverage.
The driver delivered the trailer to my driveway on time and was helpful in instructing me on setting up the ramp and installing the bulkhead. The trailer was picked up on time on the date I left. When I arrived at my destination I was able to have the delivery held for up to two days at no extra charge while I assembled my help to unload at my storage facility. The delivery driver assisted us in unlocking and taking down the bulkhead and set up the ramp for us. I don't think this is part of the service but he was a very nice guy.
I recommend this mode of moving if you have ample help for loading and unloading your things and do not mind doing all your own packing. I used professional cartons and packing. I was there for each item that went on the truck and made sure the heavy was on the bottom and the fragile on the top. Nothing was broken or damaged. I would definitely use this moving service again.
The only negative was the woman who answered the phone at the destination terminal. She didn't really have her act together. She called my storage locker manager asking for my contact information. That information was clearly printed on the front of the bill of lading. She also told me I needed to have a personal check for the amount owed to give to the delivery driver. I had prepaid via credit card, information that was also clearly printed on the front of the bill of lading.
Overall, it was a positive experience and the move went smoothly and saved me thousands of dollars.
