I hired World Moving Services who contracted with A Topp's as a carrier for my move. I arranged for my father to be there for the pick up in RI as I had already moved out of state. 90% of my stuff was already packed and as my parents started to wrap the remainder of my belongings, the movers said "don't worry, we can do that". When the movers were done packing my belongings, they left without giving a copy of the paperwork to my father. Working with the sales person on the inventory list, he estimated my weight to be 2002 pounds. I was called after the pick up and told my weight went over 1198 ponds and they were charging $740 packing fees.
Original quote : $1553.17 (for 2002 pounds)
Requested final payment: $3229.00 (claiming weight was over 1198 pounds making total weight 3200 pounds plus "packing charges")
I was not able to get anywhere with customer service. Finally Jeff called to explain my delivery date and we spoke about the additional charges. I requested a re-weigh that I be present for, he agreed. He then agreed that the packing charges were very high considering 90% had been packed and the movers may have put things in boxes that did not have to be, i.e. end tables. He agreed to reduce the packing charges to $350. I had this in writing, was told by World Moving Services that the packing charges were reduced and it was written on my receipt by the driver at delivery. After delivery, I followed to him to weigh station and was correct that my furniture did not go over by 1198 pounds but was actually under estimated weight and was only 1900 pounds. Also I was charged for shrink wrapping things that were never shrink wrapped, matresses, desk chair. There were also many boxes that were full of nothing but broken glass and my washer was packed on top of my office desk and tv making them both wet. At this point Jeff had to reimburse me the additional weight charges of $934.00 and refused to take $350 off for packing even though he verbally agreed and it was in writing. He even said his driver never wrote it on contract even though he did and initialed it. Very deceptive customer service. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!!!
