I contracted my move from Michigan to Texas through Budget Van Lines and was assigned A-Topps for the carrier.
First, they were suppose to give me 24-48 hrs notice before they came to pick up my stuff. They called me 2 hrs before they arrived to let me know they were on there way. When I mentioned I was concerned about finishing up packing my belongings, they said 'don't worry, we'll help you out'. Ignorantly, I assumed they were being nice and making up for the lack of notice. Later on, although nothing was mentioned of this during the time and no paperwork/bills, I would get a $300 bill for 'packing' our things. This "packing" included putting a few pictures in boxes and putting the couch pillows in big boxes.
When the movers arrived, one guy worked hard, and the other (Dwayne) just fooled around the whole time. As I was finishing up my packing throughout my apartment, I found Dwayne talking on the phone several times. Dwayne was also extremely unprofessional with me. At one point, my cat was crying, (loud noises of taping up the mattress was freaking her out), so I went into my bedroom to move her, and he said 'Yeah, you need to shut your pussy up.' and laughed. I let the comment pass, but I noticed throughout the move, every time my fiance went outside, he would make a 'sly', inappropriate comment to me.
Then, the real fun started... We had agreed on a delivery date of the next Thursday. Eric (dispatch) called me Sunday to let me know they would be able to deliver our stuff on Monday. I told him that was awesome, but unfortunately, my new apartment would not be ready until that Thursday (aka the AGREED delivery date). Eric then told me that it was 'no good' and I needed to 'figure something out'. After trying to work something out with Eric, I gave up and eventually had to involve Budget Van Lines. Finally, after going back and forth a bit, Eric decided that the truck could not sit idle in Texas for 2 days, so they would have to put our stuff in storage and they would be back in "a week or two" to unload it.
However, despite all this, I got a called on Monday morning from the drivers asking if I was ready to take delivery. I told them that NO, I was not there yet, and then they hung up on me. When they finally did delivery our belongings, they had broken a bookshelf and coffee table (items THEY had packed and charged extra for), and some dishes. We are still missing a bin that is full of expensive engineering text books and quite a bit of work clothes. So far, I have been getting the run-around for about a month. I have repeated talked to Jeff now (I think Eric is avoiding me?), and have gotten nowhere. Next step...BBB!!!
