I've made 1200+ mile moves before, but this experience with A-Topps was the worst. The driver and his helper were surly, rude, threatening, inappropriate, lazy. They WILL overcharge you for "moving supplies" even when you do not authorize those supplies. Your items WILL be damaged.
When the truck finally arrived at our home and these two people started removing our items to the truck, neither my husband or I had any idea all of our belongings were being placed on the parking lot and sidewalk. About 3/4 of the way into the removal of our items, I happened to step outside to see our belongings blocking the public sidewalk and our things strewn all over the yard, sidewalk and parking lot...and none of it was being watched! When I told the driver that we were extremely concerned about all of our items getting into the truck,we were met wtih anger and hostility. We told the movers that an armed robbery had happened two doors down from us the week prior and that yes, this was an area known for thefts. This did nothing to impress them. The move went on very slowly and into the night...so our belongings were left in this public parking lot in the dark. No suprise, we have many things missing. Many of our items are damaged...they tore apart our office desk and jewelry armoire trying to put them back together. We called the company to file our complaint, but the person was rude as well telling us to "just get through this move...they have a hard job to do." A-Topps does not have a claims department...they use an independant claim management service that wants to give us a little over $200 for the broken flat screen that the movers packed, a missing playstation, toaster oven, linens and destroyed furniture. It's a rip off! Don't think the DOT will help...they don't have the jurisdiction to help. Oh...T-Topps also over weighed their truck, then collected from us based on that weight. We requested re-weighs with us present and the company ended up paying us back nearly $300 they had extorted from us by their less-than-honest practices.
