One of the movers reeked of beer and when the water in the toilet kept running and I lifted the tank, there was one of his Bud Light beer cans stuffed inside the tank (thinking we didn't notice how bad he smelled of booze). And, this guy was one of the drivers!
The crew arrived late and were subcontracted from World Wide Van Lines. The came is a beat up, broken down old truck with no lift or loading ramp. My furniture was literally hurled onto the truck bed. My washer and dryer bounced own every step of the stairs and they pulled the dryer vent out of the wall leaving a gaping hole to repair. They damaged the walls, carpet and wood flooring. They destroyed a door jamb and the wood segway between rooms. They left an entire case of empty Bud Light cans littered around the yard.
At the end, when everything was packed, they refused to move unless I paid them $2,000 in cash! They then told me that I would need to have someone to take possession of the goods on the other end of the trip 3 days before I was even going to arrive at the destination. They told me they didn't care if I called the DOT or who I called it didn't make a damn to them - they were storing my things and have refused to let me know where my possessions are until I pay them an additional $4393!!!!! I've already paid them $1000 up front, plus the $2000 before they left and now $4393 and they've left approximately $1000 worth of damage to the rental house I was in, who knows how much of my furnishings have been completely destroyed and they are holding my household goods hostage.
Matt, the "owner" said he couldn't afford to have his hunk of junk truck off the road for 3 days waiting on me to arrive and they refused to return to deliver the goods and said I'd have to get a local hauler to do that if they got paid and let me know where my items were stored.
This is the biggest rip off I've ever encountered. I've contacted DOT and today I'm contacting California DOT and the Governor's office as well as the California Attorney General's office. This is clearly theft by deception.
