I recently moved from CA to NH. I originally dealt with a sales rep named Justin who seemed professional and helpful. I got a complete quote for $1684 for 286 cu ft of space. He guaranteed that there were no additional hidden costs associated with this price.
Three movers arrived with no incident, and were somewhat good about letting me know their ETA. I have been burned in the past with movers screwing me, so I made it clear to the foreman that my quote was for 286 cu ft, and my inventory had no changed. They ended up charging me $150 in "packing materials" (which consisted of tape and blankets) which was a fee quoted NO WHERE in my estimate. My last mover used the same materials, and changed nothing. I signed my bill of lading contract after the truck was loaded, with 300 cu ft used and a total cost of $1825 - thanks for the unforeseen packing materials.
THIS IS WHERE THE FUN BEGINS.
June 30th the truck picked up my apartment. July 3rd, I got a call and email from Lupe in customer service saying my invoice had been "updated" to reflect my stuff taking up 450 cu ft on the truck and I owed a total of $2299. After a signed a bill of lading contract, the truck left, and four days later, I am being told a owe them an additional $474 out of the blue. I spent two days trying to get answers from Lupe with no resolve, and several days of no response. Several days later, after being on hold for 22 minutes with another customer service rep. I am told Lupe is no longer with National, they need to look in to the issue further, and would be called back within an hour. It's now been 24 with still no answer.
On top of all of this, it has been 18 days since the truck picked up my stuff. As of yesterday afternoon, my shipment has not even been assigned a driver yet. It's still sitting in storage in California. Once assigned, it will take up to an additional 10 days to deliver. Terrible experience, to add to an already horrible experience of losing my job and having to relocate back across the country on my own dime.
