I signed a contract with Larry Hill, President, on June 7, 2013, to move my furniture from Gretna, LA to Mobile, AL, on June 9, 2013. Upon signing this contract, I paid a deposit of $350., via Credit Card, as is reflected on Invoice No: 2082 as well as the receipt, to secure his services. My furniture, bags and boxes were moved from his truck into my home on June 10, 2013. I presented Steve with a check for $550. as Payment In Full (Total $900.), as is reflected on Invoice No: 2087, after all of my belongings were removed from the 26’ moving truck and placed in my home.
My antique sideboard mirrored buffet hutch was placed, in a tilted position, against the wall, by the door, in my formal living and dining room by his moving staff. It was knocked over by his moving staff, the mirror shattered, wooden frame and pieces of the trim broke, when it crashed onto the ceramic tile floor, when they came through the door with another piece of furniture. His moving staff quickly swept up and gathered the shattered mirror glass and placed it on a furniture blanket. Steve removed a piece of the mirror from the furniture blanket as a sample and evidence for your convenience. I measured the beveled mirror in the presence of Steve and it was verified to be 3/8” thick. Steve, his assistant, told me not to worry, and assured me, that Mr. Hill would come to my home to check on the completeness of my move and that the mirror would be replaced along with the necessary restoration of the frame and trim. Several boxes were soaking wet and fell apart that were witnessed by his staff as they brought them into my home. I was informed that the truck obviously has a leak that allowed rain waters to come through.
After discovering that Steve and his staff were gone, I contacted Steve on his mobile phone at 205-586-5455 at 3:42 P.M. and informed him that he did not provide me with an Incident Report. Steve informed me that I could get an Incident Report but did not need one. Steve further assured me that Mr. Hill would come to my home on Tuesday June 11th to get measurements as the reason he did not provide an Incident Report. I informed him that I would be home at 5:00 P.M.
I was not contacted by Mr. Hill on Tuesday June 11th. I initiated contact with him at 251-366-8250, on Wednesday June 12th, and discussed the Incident. During this discussion, he stated that you would get back with me after speaking to Steve, who had a sample of the shattered glass. I specifically indicated that the mirror was beveled and 3/8” thick. Mr. Hill never contacted me to schedule an appointment to come to my home. On June 19, 2013, I wrote a letter to Mr. Hill and emailed it to him, modernmovers@comcast.net, as an attachment. I initiated another call to Mr. Hill at the beginning of July. During this contact, I mentioned the email to him and he stated that he does not check his email. He also stated that he has been too busy to contact me regarding this matter. Mr. Hill agreed to come to my home on July 10, 2013 between 5:30/6:00 PM. Again, Mr. Hill did not show up as he promised. I saw Mr. Hill on October 10, 2013, at a furniture store on Dauphin Island Parkway and brought this matter to his attention again. Mr. Hill promised to come to my home at the beginning of next work week (October 15th or 16th). Mr. Hill did not come to my home nor did he call.
