Please, do not use this company. They are rip off artists who know the industry extremely well. Merit Van Lines uses a low "estimate," but then, once everything is loaded onto the truck, they hit you with double or triple the fee. (Be aware of the pre-estimate visit: moving companies are required to come at least two weeks before the move and use a visual to give an estimate. Merit does not do this.) If you want them to take the items off the truck, they will charge an astronomical fee. They will then threaten to put your belongings up for auction.
This is the tactic several people have reported. The problem is, once you pay them, you are acknowledging completion of the contracted service. Your options after that are extremely limited. Because of this, Merit has a very high Better Business Bureau rating. Unless every dissatisfied customer files complaints with a variety of agencies, none of which accept full responsibility for regulating the industry, take them to court or file complaints with Internal Revenue Service (questioning the reporting of their true revenue, given the number and amount of cash transactions) nothing can really be done to bring this company to heel.
The only feasible option is word of mouth. I cannot emphasize strongly enough that this is a company of con men and liars. Please, please use any other company other than Merit Van Lines.
