I've moved my office and my home a good many times over a 40 year career. There have been some minor damages during these moves, but I've only had to file 1 claim until now. However, Mahwah Movers is the most unprofessional, least competent, least trustworthy and least customer - oriented company I've ever dealt with. It started with broken promises about packing materials, delivery times and packing (charged $50 to crate a clock but on moving day refused to do anything more than wrap it in wrapping paper---no refund of course). It continued with sloppiness (when they left, the house was littered with wrapping paper and empty tape rolls; the driveway had dozens of cigarette butts and the movers forgot several items that they left in the yard---I had to move the forgotten items myself).
At the destination, broken items were hidden behind other furniture so I wouldn't notice right away, some heavy items were left in the basement because the movers didn't want to carry them upstairs and, worst of all, a $12,500 rug was "missing." Mahwah later claimed they had never loaded the rug, but I have 2 witnesses who watched them do it.
I mailed my claim 3 times to Mahwah Movers, but they always said they didn't receive it (when it was mailed certified, return receipt requested, they refused to accept it or to pick it up at the post office). I finally had to recover the $14,000 amount of my claim from my regular insurance company since Mahwah ignored all correspondence (including emails) from me, my insurance company and the Better Business Bureau. This, despite the fact that I paid Mahwah Movers $700 for insurance. These are the worst movers imaginable and the sort of people who make you feel like you need a shower.
Please trust me----you'll never need a moving company enough to use these guys.
