$600 move ended up costing me around $1,200
I used E-Z Movers a while back and decided to give them another try. I called and I explained to the sales representative "Maryum" that I wanted a quote on what it would cost me to pack my belonging, put them in storage, and return them to me when I was ready to move. She told me it would be no problem at all since it was local. She told me they can provide me with 3 months free storage and all I had to do is call and they will return my belongings to the new location.
My move was a local move here in Chicago. Maryum told me that they would provide me with free wardrobe boxes, 3 months storage, tape, boxes, blankets at no extra cost. Everything would cost me around $600 from start to finish. She stated that it would cost me around $350 for the first move for 3 1/2 hours and if it was going to be less, the price would be adjusted, and around $250 for the 2nd move because everything was already pre-packed and I did not need any supplies. At that point I was really ecstatic. I planned on renting a truck and moving my stuff in storage for the time being and it would have costed me around $300, but I could not pass up the price she quoted me.
She sends me a contract to sign which was $395, and a $100 deposit that would be returned back to me. I did not think anything of it, considering that we just spoke on the phone 5 minutes ago. I gave her my credit card information and signed the paperwork she sent me.
Moving day arrives and the moving company arrives early, which is fine. Mind you that I pre-packed 18 boxes and everything else small that I can fit into boxes by myself ahead of time and stacked them by the front door. All they had to do is take apart my bed and my couch. 70% of my belonging I pre-packed myself and the big stuff were left, not that there were many.
They got to my place at 8:40am and finished by 10:10am. It took them 1 1/2 hours from start to finish, but I got charged with a bill for 3 1/2 hours for $576.50 + they kept my deposit which came out to be $676.50. In the contract they pre-charge you a flat fee of $56.50 for travel time, but the movers stack on another charge for travel 30 minutes once they move you. I was charged for 2 hours extra that I did not use. The company was only 15 minutes away from the place that I needed packed.
I asked the movers if I follow them to the storage unit to see where they put my belongings, and I was told that NO i could not, because they had other work to take care of and it would not be taken care of for about 5 hours.
At this point, there was nothing I could do. I could not argue with the movers, cause they had my stuff and I had nowhere else to put my stuff in. I called the company the next day and spoke to Maryum about the price she quoted me and what I actually got changed and she forgot everything we discussed over the phone. She denied our conversation we had and made it seem as if I was just making stories up. I asked if I could speak to a manager and I was told No. She told me that I had to write a complaint letter to Kelly Reed, Manager, which I did and 1 month later I received a letter back stating that there is nothing they could do for me.
They had all my belongings in storage. I was worried that things would go missing.. My condo was finally ready to move in, I called and of course had to speak to Maryum again and scheduled the 2nd move. I received another contract that I had to sign that was another $420 + $100 deposit. Ok... There was nothing that I could say or do at this point, but shut up and pay. $600 move ended up costing me around $1,200.
I do not recommend this company for any move if you are on a budget. They get you one way or another. They misinform you on what the prices will actually be and what is provided to you on your move.
