Nationwide Movers USA (USDOT# 2265051/ICC MC 770368) dba MIA Van Lines.
Their name (MIA Van Lines) says it all. I strongly recommend against using them. Short version, significant loss and damage, initial vs final pricing very different, poor communication, has difficulty meeting obligations. More detail follows.
We had an interstate move that required storage of our goods for about 6 months.
Pickup required two trucks on two different days and a great increase in the charge.
Storage was to have been in GA, but from conversations with the dispatcher and delivery driver, I believe the goods were stored in FL for at least part of the time, with no notice to us. Trying to pay the storage bill was a problem. I informed MIA at pickup that I needed six months storage. MIA sent only two invoices and then only after I requested them. I had to pay for the remainder of the months against invoices I created. MIA relocated their offices while our goods were in storage, but neglected to notify me, so I sent a payment to the wrong address. Only after I called was I informed of the change.
Delivery – we agreed on a delivery date at least 21 days prior to the requested delivery. When I called to confirm a week before the agreed upon date, I was told MIA was ‘swamped’ and that to get the delivery as agreed, I would have to pay for an exclusive use truck ($1,200). For that amount, our belongings would be delivered in the morning on the agreed date. A truck did show up mid afternoon (vs the morning commitment MIA made in exchange for a premium) after I made several phone calls and it contained less than half our goods. The second truck was to be at our house by early evening that day. It never showed and I was not contacted. We waited at home the next day (Saturday); no truck and no contact, although I called and left two messages with the dispatcher. Sunday we were headed out of town. At 4pm Sunday, I received a call from the driver that the truck was at the gate and ready to deliver. That was the only notice I got. We were 500 miles away at the time. A few days later the dispatcher called to ask why I refused the delivery and that I could pick up my belongings at a storage location nearby. I hired another company to move the goods from the mini-storage to our house (additional expense).
Damage – there was little that arrived without some damage. I estimate about 1/3 of the items on the inventory list did not make it. For example, we received the legs for our dining room table, but no table. One dining room chair was packed in a wardrobe with other things, no protective blanket. Large pottery planters were put in boxes with no packing (both broken).
There are many other moving companies that can do a better job. Use one of them and not Nationwide Movers USA (MIA Van Lines). In our married life, we have moved over 20 times, so I should have been more discerning in my choice. I learned my lesson on this move.
